About United Trusts
In 1952 through the vision and philanthropy of our Founder, Chairman and Honorary Director Mr Fred Freeman, Covenanted Giving to local charitable organisations was pioneered through our sister charity United Way. This was a system where the tax paid on donations was reclaimed from the Inland Revenue by United Way and then distributed to registered charities. From 1952 until 1988 this cumbersome way of “Tax Efficient” giving was made in this way. However, during this time £m’s were raised distributed to many different charitable causes.

In 1988 the system was changed to the current payroll giving system where donations are deducted before tax. United Way pioneered the Give As You Earn (GAYE), system and is the new way to make “tax efficient” donations. The donations are collected through the payroll and then sent by the employer to a payroll giving agency United Way licensed by HMCR (Inland Revenue), to collate the donations and distribute them to charitable organisations.

In 1988 United Trusts was formed as our charitable organisation to make a real difference in the fabric of our Communities through GIVE AS YOU EARN by helping Individuals and Community Groups in real need through a ground breaking Workplace Charity Fund Scheme.

The Workplace Charity Fund campaign was launched to empower donors to remain in control of their donations  and make charitable grants through United Trusts to not only local, regional and national charities but to known individuals in need as well. All recipients are chosen by the donors of their Workplace Charity Fund and our vast network of advisors within the communities in which we serve. A truly unique concept that has relieved suffering within our Communities for almost 20 years.
